A Developmental Movement Therapy session will provide you with a chance to connect with your adopted child while sharing the fun of movement games and activities like swinging in a hammock, tossing beanbags back and forth or rolling over therapy balls.

A session of uninterrupted time together gives you a chance to focus on your relationship in a safe and comfortable environment and to approach your child’s experience with curiosity and understanding.

Developmental Movement Therapy:

  • will help you develop increased awareness of both your own and your child’s patterns of relating.
  • will address feelings that come up in the course of interactive play.
  • will offer you insight into your child’s experience of being adopted.
  • will give you tools for tuning into your child more deeply.
  • will help you to identify and explore movements and sensory experiences that will support your child’s ability to self-regulate.

Parent consults in the course of therapy will deepen your understanding of attachment and help you to make sense of the challenging behaviors that often arise and threaten the sense of connection you have with your child.

Testimonials:

“Lorni has been an amazing resource both in and out of her office!  Our son loves her and looks forward to spending time with her.  We benefit infinitely as parents from all the things she has taught us, plus she is a responsive advocate outside of our official appointments as well.  She sends quick and thoughtful responses to emergency emails, and shows up to support us at school meetings in the community.  We’ve all learned so much from her, she is an invaluable ally.”
